The first European to arrive on the bora island was Captain James Cook in the late 1800s. He set out from Cook Islands, an island off Tahiti where he reached South Pacific in the year 1819. On his way back, he stopped at Vanuatu where he established a fort at Cape Horn, which later became the country's capital city. Thus, for the island was born when Cook and his men stayed here to fortify it from the waves of the Tahiti Ocean.
